So going to start on my list, glad i made one actually, cause, I'm not really sure what i want to do right now. >.<
Time for another piece of philosophy from your resident philosopher-wannabe
Shall be talking about friendship today. Friends are people you go out with, people you get in touch with and people whom generally do NOT want to harm you =x Although, from personal experience, sometimes you can really hurt a friend simply by trying not to let him/her get hurt. Reason being you just aren't him/her.
An example would be say person A, whom i'm going to name as Peter. Lets say Peter went and found himself a girlfriend that his heads over heels over. He'd do practically anything for her. However, this girlfriend can be pretty restrictive at times. Maybe sometimes she'd not let him hang out with his girl-friends just because shes jealous, or concerned. Then sometimes she just wont let him hang out with his other friends because she doesn't want him to 'get hurt' or she thinks they are bad company. Peter himself is feeling miserable, but doesnt voice out too much because he loves her. Because of such matters its a pretty unhealthy relationship because both parties just cannot come to a mutual understanding and respect each other like they ought to.
In the course of this relationship, Peter and his girlfriend tend to be more emotional because of the unstable-ness of the entire situation. So lets say one fine day his girlfriend got really jealous of one of Peter's childhood friends and started threatening her, to 'stay away' from him. His friend, obviously not giving in, expresses her disapproval of Peter's girlfriend, threatening to sever ties if this carries on. Peter himself is pretty much blindly in love and seriously neglects his other friends and puts his girlfriend before them in practically any situation. In the end, Peter is left practically without any friends and still facing relationship problems.
He expresses remorse, but his friends are convinced that either his girlfriend leaves, or they leave, since they find it to be simply irritating that he values her over them to such an extent that they seemingly don't matter. Peter is left with a dilemna where he is still unable to leave her because his hearts with her.
Classic example huh?
In my honest opinion, I feel that friends really shouldn't take matters into their own hands. Sometimes friends can be pretty annoying when they make decisions on relationships solely based on what THEY think would be the best. Like forcing your friend to leave a relationship, or severing ties just because THEY feel its the best way.
Personally, that kind of thinking just sucks. Seriously. Even in the bset of interests, you may just be worseing the situation, not helping it. I hate even MY parents making decisions for me, let alone my friends. It's just that, everyones different. We all have our own mindsets, our own unique mentality. People are selfish by nature. No matter how you justify it to yourself, ultimately, the decision you make benefits you in some way.
I recently had an experience, where my friend did something pretty serious without first asking for my opinion. Well, that was our friendship down the drain. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one this things have happened to. People must understand that such decisions, seemingly for the best of your friends, are in actuality the most selfish thing you can do. Most of the time it blows up right in your face.
As friends, you should offer your advice, state how you feel, maybe right a wrong here and there. But making decisions between the both of you without seeking consultation is a wrong path to take. In earnest, I hope people can better manage relationships after this post =D Maybe I'll talk about relationships someday, once I escape this trap of single-ness >.<
