In commemoration of a festival which most of us don't celebrate, heres a random list of cryptids in a country we have never been to.
Bigfoot
Bigfoot is described in reports as a large ape-like creature with reports ranging anywhere between 6–10 feet (1.8–3.0 m) tall weighing in excess of 500 pounds (230 kg) and covered in dark brown or dark reddish hair.Alleged witnesses have described large eyes, a pronounced brow ridge, and a large, low-set forehead; the top of the head has been described as rounded and crested, similar to the sagittal crest of the male gorilla. Bigfoot is commonly reported to have a strong, unpleasant smell by those who have claimed to have encountered it. The enormous footprints for which it is named have been as large as 24 inches (61 cm) long and 8 inches (20 cm) wide While most casts have five toes—like all known apes—some casts of alleged Bigfoot tracks have had numbers ranging from two to six.Some have also contained claw marks, making it likely that a portion came from known animals such as bears, which have four toes and claws. Proponents have also claimed the creatures to be mainly nocturnal and omnivorous.

Bigfoot is probably a cryptid practically everyone has heard of. This gigantic ape appears seemingly everywhere as the yeti, sasquatch or norman. The most memorable time i saw bigfoot was in the mummy 3 where *spoilers* A whole bunch of bigfeet were under the control of this socceress* . Apparently , despite being quite an old legend, it is still be kept relatively alive today by the general public.
Jersey Devil
The Jersey Devil, sometimes called the Leeds Devil, is a legendary creature or cryptid said to inhabit the Pine Barrens in southern New Jersey. The creature is often described as a flying biped with hooves, but there are many variations.The most accepted origin of the story as far as New Jersians are concerned started with Mother Leeds and is as follows:
"It was said that Mother Leeds had 12 children and after given birth to her 12th child, she said if she had another, it would be the devil. In 1735, Mother Leeds was in labor on a stormy night. Gathered around her were her friends. Mother Leeds was supposedly a witch and the child's father was the devil himself. The child was born normal, but then changed form. It changed from a normal baby to a creature with hooves, a horses head, bat wings and a forked tail. It growled and screamed, then killed the midwife before flying up the chimney. It circled the villages and headed toward the pines. In 1740 a clergy exorcised the devil for 100 years and it wasn't seen again until 1890."

This creature sent chills down my spine the first time i read about it in one of the many ghost story books i thrill myself reading. Apparently it still does, i mean, just look at it. It's one creature i never want to see in the night. Or in the morning either. Remember national geographic did a special on it before, along with mothman, which was another creepy fella.
Mothman
The Mothman is the name given to a creature reported in the Charleston and Point Pleasant areas of West Virginia between November 12, 1966 (near Clendenin),] and December 1967. Most observers describe the Mothman as a winged man-sized creature with large reflective red eyes and large moth-like wings. The creature often appeared to have no head, with its eyes set into its chest.

The wikipedia article doesn't really give much information on this creature. Could still remember from National geographic as well as this book titled 'strange highways' that this creatures supposedly cursed. Apparently it was like medusa except instead of turning you into stone, it kills you. There was also the case of phones emitting eerie screeching noises whenever you talk about the mothman over the line. This one kinda scared me too.
Thunderbird
Thunderbird is a term used in cryptozoology to describe large, bird-like creatures, generally identified with the Thunderbird of Native American myth and folklore. Similar cryptids reported in the Old World are often called Rocs. Thunderbirds are regarded by a small number of researchers as having lizard features like the pterosaurs and pteranodon. Although reports of Thunderbird sightings go back centuries, due to the lack of scientific evidence or fossil record the creature is generally regarded as a myth.
Cryptozoologists also posit that the Thunderbird was associated with storms because they followed the drafts to stay in flight, not unlike the way a modern eagle rides mountain up currents. Noted cryptozoologist John Keel claims to have mapped several Thunderbird sightings and found that they corresponded chronologically and geographically with storms moving across the United States.

Now, if we could ever find and mass breed this bird, that will be the world's food problems down the drain. Couldn't find a picture >.< But just imagine this gigantic black bird swooping down on you.
Giant Anaconda
Reports of giant anaconda date back as far as the discovery of South America when sightings of snakes upwards of 11 meters (33.5 ft) began to circulate amongst colonists and the topic has been a subject of debate ever since among cryptozoologists and zoologists. Anacondas normally only grow to size of 6 metres (20 ft), and 250 kilos in weight, but tales of truly gigantic specimens persist. Indeed, although some python species can grow longer in length, the anaconda, particularly the Green Anaconda, is the heaviest and largest in terms of diameter of all snakes, and is often considered the biggest snake in the world. It is not uncommon for a fully grown anaconda to attack and kill a panther or crocodile. Yet, despite the snake's large size, almost no specimens above the size of 35 feet (11 m) have been captured, and anacondas of this proportion are considered cryptids.

Just felt this was cool. After watching both Anaconda and Anaconda2, I can pretty much imagine how a giant snake can be pretty damn scary....Yep, dont think i'll ever be visiting South America. Snakes are personally pretty scary creatures up close. Giant ones aside, a bite from a rattlesnake can kill you in minutes. It's no wonder many people have a phobia of snakes.
Then again, not all cryptids remain undiscovered. Creatures like the Dodo or Komodo dragon were previously thought to be myths until actually discovered. More recent discoveries would be the discovery of the Colossal squid or the frilled shark.

Frilled shark.
This prehistoric shark is rarely seen alive as its natural habitat lies up to 1,280 metres (4,200 feet) deep under the sea.Experts at the Awashima Marine Park were able to examine the creature, which was a female, and film it swimming around.Unfortunately though it died a couple of hours after it was moved to its new environment.The eel-looking shark, with its mouth full of 300 trident-shaped teeth, measured 5.3 feet-long and weighed 16.5 pounds.Frilled sharks normally inhabit deep sea waters between 400 and 4,200 feet and rarely come to the surface.However they have been seen near the coast of Japan before, especially during the winter time when the water temperature drops and they have to get to warmer areas to feed.
Frilled sharks can grow to a length of nearly 6.5 feet and eat deep-sea squids and other soft-bodied preys.Most specimen are found in the Japanese waters.
Wow, this is a long post. Personally I think these creatures are pretty cool to read up about in my free time.
